Breaking News of the Day: Obama Backs Gay Marriage: President Obama publicly announced his support for gay marriage in an interview today with Robin Roberts, ABC News is reporting. The president had come under fire this week for remaining mum on the subject after Joe Biden and Arne Duncan became the second and third members of his Cabinet to declare their support of same-sex marriage.

Jerks at Occupy Wall Street after asking telling us Native folks to stop using our drums and holding the circle for the Danzantes (because, like, they “totally got it” - like, totally got our message - but we were totes being too loud and possibly drowning out their Drum circles)………………… on ‘Columbus Day’. goodness. I could dedicate an entire tag to just the bull shit people said to me at Occupy Olympia and about other OWS shit when it comes to bull shit they’ve said about/to natives.

Ron Paul voted NO on establishing nationwide AMBER alert system for missing kids.
Inb4 ron paul fanboys.
Ron paul said:
However, Mr. Speaker, I am concerned that making the AMBER Alert system a Federal program is neither constitutionally sound nor effective law enforcement.
So setting up a system for saving children is bad because of a piece of paper? lol k.
All Americans should be impressed at the demonstrated effectiveness of the AMBER system in locating missing and kidnapped children. However, I would ask my colleagues to consider that one of the factors that makes the current AMBER system so effective is that the AMBER Alert system is not a Federal program. Instead, states and local governments developed AMBER Alerts on their own, thus ensuring that each AMBER system meets the unique needs of individual jurisdictions. Once the AMBER Alert system becomes a one-size-fits all Federal program (with standards determined by DC-based bureaucrats instead of community-based law enforcement officials) local officials will not be able to tailor the AMBER Alert to fit their unique circumstances. Thus, nationalizing the AMBER system will cause this important program to lose some of its effectiveness.
This at first seems like a reasonable argument.
The federal government is shit at almost everything it does.
However, I thought about it, which is why I posted it.
If a child goes missing, they don’t go missing at just at the state level. They go missing at the national - No, the universal level. The least we can do is have a coordinated effort to find a child all across the United States. This bill ensures interstate coordination in the search to find lost children.
And Ron Paul voted against it, in the name of the oh so sacred constitution.
Ron Paul is not a libertarian, he’s an anti-federalist.

Are you a manarchist?
A helpful questionnaire for those involved in political movements (not just anarchism) to gauge their privilege in regards to sexism and misogyny. If you answer yes to any of these questions, you may be a brogressive.
Just a reminder.
The Submit box is open, so feel free to submit away if you see some brogressive behavior around!
White brogressives often use many of these arguments.

Actually, the prevalence of domestic violence is absolutely not the same for men as that for women. According to the US Department of Justice Bureau of Justice Statistics, women make up 3/4 of the victims of homicide by an intimate partner. Actually, 33% of all women murdered (of course, only cases which are solved are included) are murdered by an intimate partner. Women make up about 85% of the victims of non-lethal domestic violence. In all, women are victims of intimate partner violence at a rate about 5 times that of males. (Source)
Secondly, while men are not granted custody of their children as much as women, the reasoning for this is once again based on rigid gender roles. Women are expected to be the caretakers of their children and demonized when they do not choose that role or are not good at it (depending on whatever your standards for good happen to be). Therefore, the reason for why men are not given custody as much is because the responsibility for taking care of children falls on women entirely in this society, and it is a basic tenet of patriarchy, which while hurting people of all genders, does disproportionately hurt women and trans* people more than cisgender men.
Thirdly, with these “handful of examples” this poster has collected (a couple of those which have been refuted), there is serious derailing going on from focusing on the problems of anyone but cisgender men. If women and trans* people get advantages under a patriarchy, they are minimal compared to that afforded to cisgender men.
Finally, STFU brogressive.
A brogressive who doesn’t understand the positive role government can often play in people’s lives, such as mandating an end to discrimination. Ron Paul is a brogressive himself, yet we know he has racist, misogynist, homophobic, and anti-choice views. He is quite famous for opposing the Civil Rights Act under the guise of wanting a smaller government.

Ron Paul Bingo:
This probably would have been useful a few weeks ago, but it took until now for me to think of it. But since New Hampshire is coming up, maybe this will be helpful.
Some rules to play the game:
- For an entry to count, it has to be as close to the wording as possible. Comment with a better wording if it’s too distant from what you’re seeing.
- Liberty space is free. You don’t need the federal government to give it to you. If you don’t believe in liberty being free, feel free to substitute “RON PAUL 2012!!!” for it. It also only counts if it’s in all caps, in that case (not that it makes it any harder).
- Statements must be said in seriousness, and not as a joke. Otherwise it doesn’t count.
You’ll find that many Ron Paul supporters often tend to be brogressives or fauxgressives, so this bingo could very well be called “Brogressive Bingo” as well.
A Black Woman Who Occupied Wall Street: Why She Won't Be Going Back
THIS is why i have trouble getting behind occupy wall street and other white-led movements. because despite how “progressive” people who lead them are, there is STILL rampant oppression within the movements. WOC are STILL silenced. and there is never anything done about it. if you like to think of white progressive as saints, it would seriously behoove you to read this article.
_________
A FEW CHOICE QUOTES FROM HER ACCOUNT:
“Women are being molested in the park and there is no real viable system in place to handle it without the need for police intervention. There are white supremacists groups running around there. There are people smoking drugs there even though it puts the entire action at risk…”“There is a constant marginalization of women and I was even verbally and physically imposed on and threatened by a white man who was up in my face with his fingers pointing in my face because he wanted to dictate to people what he thought they should do. When I spoke up and said that he and two other white men are not supposed to dictate to everyone what should happen but that the decision should be made through consensus he got angry.”
“A black man I met there came over I was telling him what happened. Another white guy steps in between us and proceeds to explain to him what happened in order to protect the other white man.”
“White people are still acceptably in charge, arrogant and superior. In other words, you can have all of the experience in the world as an organizer, activist or facilitator but if you are not a white man then its a problem. If you are a white man…its acceptable and fine, even if the meeting isn’t fruitful and doesn’t result in anything.”
“I don’t know what the agenda of these white people are but their paternalistic attitudes, constant invalidation, smart remarks and repressive behavior toward myself and other black people is not productive nor is it liberating.”“He said he doesn’t understand why black people are attacking him when he presents this to them and he has been attacked five times already that day. I told him that the fact that he doesn’t understand why he is being attacked, is all the more reason why he shouldn’t be in charge of an action like that. This is another example of the paternalistic attitudes that exists amongst these white people who think they are automatically in charge and not only that but are somehow in a position to articulate my oppression as a black woman for me.”
“I came away from this experience feeling unsupported, disrespected, maligned and even more oppressed.”“This disgusting display of white superiority and male dominance exists throughout this OWS movement. The only bright spot in all of this was the newly formed Women Occupying Wall Street (WOW) group. These women were informed, supportive and concerned about the issues I and other women raised and also had been subjected to abusive behaviors themselves.”
A look into the very brogressive nature of Occupy Wall Street. More OWS posts coming soon as this is a movement often filled with brogressives.
